Janamat mulls quitting the federal government

The Janamat Party, having withdrawn from the Madhes government led by the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal (JSP-N), is contemplating withdrawing its support from the federal government. Dr. C.K. Raut, the Chair of Janamat, cited rampant corruption within the Madhes government as the primary reason for their departure. The party had sought to appoint a minister from the Dalit community in the Madhes cabinet, but faced opposition from the ruling coalition, leading to allegations of corruption. In response, Janamat plans to launch a comprehensive anti-corruption campaign in the Taria region, focusing on their movement rather than being part of the government at both central and provincial levels.

The friction between Janamat and the ruling coalition, particularly JSP-N, intensified over the upcoming Upper House election scheduled for January 25. Janamat sought representation in the National Assembly, but faced opposition from alliance partners. This disagreement, along with conflicts over key ministerial positions and participation in foundation-laying events, has strained relations between the parties. The withdrawal of Janamat from the Madhes government, coupled with the heightened tensions, signals a significant political shift in the region and raises questions about the stability of the ruling coalition.
