Relentless rain has severely disrupted life across Nepal, especially in Kathmandu, causing floods, flight cancellations, and road closures. The Bagmati River has overflowed, inundating riverbank settlements and the Balkhu vegetable and fruit market, which frequently floods during heavy rain. The Kathmandu District Administration Office has warned that the water levels in the valley’s rivers have surpassed danger levels, with the situation expected to persist until Saturday evening.
Several areas in Kathmandu Valley, including Imadol, Baudha, Kapan, and Banasthali, are experiencing severe flooding. Police have been patrolling riverbanks to prevent accidents, particularly in high-risk areas such as Khokana, Gaurighat, Balkhukhola, and Bishnumati.

Heavy rainfall is affecting many provinces, including Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Sudurpaschim, and Karnali, leading to a high risk of flooding and landslides. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reports continuous rain in eastern Nepal for over 30 hours, impacting daily life nationwide.
Flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) were disrupted, with some domestic and international flights canceled or delayed. Roads such as the Naubise-Nagdhunga section of the Tribhuvan Highway have been blocked by mudflows, stranding vehicles. Other highways, including the BP Highway and those connecting Hetauda to Pharping and Lalitpur, are also blocked due to landslides. Authorities have urged people to avoid non-essential travel, especially at night, in hilly areas. While there have been no reported casualties, the situation remains precarious, and efforts are ongoing to clear the blocked roads and ensure safety. The weather is expected to improve by Sunday morning.
