Death toll in central Texas flash floods rises to 82 as sheriff says 10 campers remain missing

नेपाल सम्वत् ११४५   दिल्लाथ्वः १२ (असार २३, २०८२ ) जुलाई ७, २०२५ ,सोमबार, बाँपीझ्याला । The devastating flash floods that struck central Texas have left a trail of destruction, with at least 82 confirmed dead and dozens more still unaccounted for. Families gathered at Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp in Kerr County, to sift through debris and search for missing loved ones. The floods, triggered by a sudden and intense overnight storm, washed away cabins, homes, and vehicles. Rescuers have been working tirelessly in dangerous conditions, including snake-infested waters, to locate survivors and recover bodies. Officials confirmed that 68 of the dead were found in Kerr County alone, with many of them children.

As emergency responders battled rising waters, debris, and the aftermath of the storm, concerns grew over whether enough was done to warn residents. Though the National Weather Service had issued warnings before the flooding, the intensity and speed of the storm caught many by surprise. Governor Greg Abbott declared a state of disaster, warned of further rain, and announced Sunday as a day of prayer for the victims. President Trump approved federal aid for the region and expressed his condolences, stating he would visit the affected area soon. Meanwhile, search and rescue teams used helicopters, drones, and boats to comb through isolated camps and riverbanks for the missing.

At Camp Mystic and the surrounding Hill Country, the emotional toll was evident as families grieved, searched the wreckage, and recounted harrowing escapes. Survivors described clinging to trees and walking through chest-deep water guided by ropes. One young girl and a counselor were confirmed dead, and two sisters from Dallas remained missing. The floodwaters rose 26 feet in under an hour, an event that stunned local authorities despite their previous flood preparedness. Long considered "flash flood alley," the area has a history of such disasters, but rarely with this level of devastation.

Despite precautions taken by some camps, including moving campers to higher ground, the storm's impact overwhelmed the region. Questions have arisen about the sufficiency of early warnings and the preparedness of camp operators and local authorities. As water levels slowly recede, state and federal officials have pledged to continue search and recovery operations and to investigate the response effort. The disaster has sparked national and international sympathy, with Pope Leo XIV offering prayers from the Vatican. For now, Texas mourns its losses, prays for the missing, and braces for more potential flooding.
