Petroleum products imports via Birgunj reach Rs 122 billion in eight months

नेपाल सम्वत् ११४५ चिल्लागाः १० (११ चैत्र, २०८१) मार्च २४, २०२५ ,सोमबार, बाँपीझ्याला ।Petroleum products imports through the Birgunj border transit totaled Rs 122.2 billion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, marking an increase of Rs 1.67 billion compared to the same period last year.

According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the imported petroleum products include diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene. Revenue from petroleum imports also surged, reaching Rs 50.13 billion, up from Rs 44.80 billion in the previous fiscal year.

Customs Chief Deepak Lamichhane attributed the rise in imports to increased infrastructure construction. The breakdown of imports includes 685,991 kiloliters of diesel worth Rs 61.45 billion, generating Rs 27.31 billion in revenue, and 290,382 kiloliters of petrol worth Rs 25.30 billion, contributing Rs 16.48 billion in revenue.

Similarly, 210.04 million kilograms of LPG valued at Rs 24.05 billion were imported, with Rs 4.5 billion collected in revenue. In comparison, 186.81 million kilograms of LPG worth Rs 19.52 billion were imported during the same period last year.
