Women’s Day observed, highlighting significance of dignified menstruation

नेपाल सम्वत् ११४५ चिल्लाथ्वः ९ (२४ फाल्गुन, २०८१) मार्च ८, २०२५ ,शनिबार, बाँपीझ्याला ।The Imperial World School in Budhanilkantha celebrated the 115th International Women’s Day with a focus on dignified menstruation. Secondary-level students recited poems and delivered presentations emphasizing the importance of women’s rights, equality, and empowerment, aligning with this year’s theme, “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment.” Participants highlighted that a single day of celebration is insufficient for women’s empowerment, stressing the need for continuous efforts to eliminate discrimination and achieve gender equality.

Dr. Radha Paudel, a prominent advocate for dignified menstruation, attended as the chief guest and emphasized that true empowerment cannot be achieved without ending menstrual discrimination. She stated, “Until our mothers, we, our daughters, and all menstruators are freed from menstrual discrimination, empowerment in the real sense will remain elusive.” Dr. Paudel called menstrual practices and discrimination socially constructed barriers that infringe on fundamental rights and urged students to challenge gender stereotypes, including those affecting trans-men and the queer community.

Dr. Paudel also recommended that the school promote menstrual dignity by painting walls with related messages and incorporating menstrual education into the curriculum. She encouraged breaking the silence and stigma around menstruation. The event also honored Clara Zetkin, the founder of International Women’s Day.

School coordinator Zunita Karki shared that the school is committed to holistic student development, focusing on inclusion, social justice, and addressing inequality. The event aimed to raise awareness and inspire action toward these goals.
