Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to visit Nepal in February

नेपाल सम्वत् ११४५ प्वहेलागाः २ ( २ माघ , २०८१) जनवरी १५, २०२५ , बुधबार, बाँपीझ्याला । The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie, will embark on their first international tour of 2025 with a visit to Nepal in the first week of February. According to the Royal Family’s official website, their five-day visit, beginning February 4, will highlight the enduring ties between the United Kingdom and Nepal.

The royal couple’s itinerary includes attending the attestation parade for new Gurkha recruits at the British Gurkha Camp in Pokhara on February 7. The event will give the Duke and Duchess an opportunity to meet the recruits and their families. The Gurkhas, known for their bravery and long-standing service in the British Army, have been deployed worldwide, including Cyprus, Japan, and Australia, for over two centuries.

During their stay, the Duke and Duchess will meet high-ranking Nepali government officials and families of Gurkha veterans. They are also expected to visit UK-funded development projects in Nepal. Additionally, preparations are underway for a mountain flight over the Everest region and a trek in the Annapurna foothills, including Ghandruk, providing the couple with a chance to explore Nepal’s natural beauty.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the visit, emphasizing the historical significance of the UK-Nepal relationship and the strong attachment of British royalty to Nepal. Detailed travel plans will be announced in coordination with the British Embassy in Kathmandu. The visit follows previous royal engagements in Nepal, including Prince Harry’s 11-day tour in 2016 and Prince Philip’s visit in 2000, underscoring the ongoing ties between the two nations.
