PM Oli in New York, to meet world leaders including Modi

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has arrived in the United States to participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). During his 10-day stay, Oli will address the assembly and hold various bilateral meetings with world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This visit marks his first international trip since becoming prime minister for the third time in July.

In addition to addressing the UNGA, Oli is expected to speak at various events on the sidelines, such as the Summit of the Future and the Parliamentary Forum on Fossil Fuels. He will also meet with leaders from Bhutan, Kuwait, and the European Union, among others, to discuss regional and global issues. A key meeting with PM Modi is seen as an opportunity to mend strained Nepal-India relations following a boundary dispute in 2020.

Throughout the week, Oli will also participate in events related to climate change, health, and diplomacy. His engagements include a keynote at Columbia University, a reception with President Biden, and meetings with officials from the Millennium Challenge Corporation and UNICEF. The prime minister leads a 20-member delegation, while his spouse and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana will attend separate high-level meetings and events.
