A special vaccination campaign against polio has been rolled out in all the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley from today.
The Ministry of Health and Population has launched the immunization drive after the detection of polio virus in a sample of water taken from the confluence of the Tukucha rivulet and the Bagmati river at Teku, Kathmandu, said Dr Abhiyan Gautam, Chief of the Child Health and Immunization Section of the Department of Health Services.
According to Dr Gautam, health workers and women community health volunteers will administer the ‘OPV’ to new-born and children below five years.
The immunization programme will run till July 27. Two hundred and eighty thousand children will be administered the OPV under the special immunization campaign, he added.
