Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Rabi Lamichhane, emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing the challenges associated with obtaining citizenship during the inauguration of a program titled “Discussion on Citizenship and Citizenship Related Issues,” organized by the Home Ministry. He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all citizens can exercise their constitutional right to acquire a citizenship certificate.
Lamichhane underscored that citizens should not be deprived of their constitutional rights regarding citizenship. He pointed out that the government is actively working to eliminate the complexities surrounding the acquisition of citizenship by formulating appropriate procedures. He emphasized that it is the government’s duty and responsibility to draft laws that address these issues.
The Home Minister mentioned that the ministry has initiated discussions with various stakeholders to address the issues related to acquiring citizenship, demonstrating the ministry’s commitment to its duty towards the citizens. Lamichhane expressed confidence that these problems could be resolved by incorporating the conclusions from these stakeholder discussions into the new procedures.
He further explained that the Home Ministry is facilitating the protection of citizens’ rights to citizenship as granted by the constitution, existing laws, and rules, except where explicitly prohibited by law. Lamichhane recalled his past efforts to highlight these issues, even before his current role in the government, during his tenure as a media professional.
The Home Minister highlighted the importance of the suggestions received from discussions with experts and stakeholders, stating that these inputs would be crucial for the government. He emphasized that the laws and procedures related to citizenship should be revised to incorporate the suggestions from these discussions. The program included four sessions dedicated to the discussion of citizenship issues, aiming to gather diverse perspectives and formulate effective solutions.
