A team of representatives from Bigu Rural Municipality in Dolakha has successfully climbed the virgin peak, Chhopa Bamare in the northwest of Lamabagar in Bigu-1 on Friday. The peak with a height of 6,109 meters was scaled by a total of six members of the team led by Everestiers Lila Bahadur Basnet and Nima Gyaljen Sherpa.
The 9-member team had embarked on the expedition – Bigu Municipality First Nepali Chhopa Bamare Winter Expedition – towards the mountain on December 25, returned to Lamabagar on Sunday, 8 days after starting their Himalayan ascent.The team, including Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, Lila Bahadur Basnet, Ward Chair Sanjeev Oli, Phurba Thiley Sherpa, Bhanindra Khadka, and Lakpageli Sherpa, successfully ascended the Chhopa Bamare on Friday, December 29, at 9:30 AM, according to Nima Gyaljen Sherpa. Sherpa added that they successfully climbed the virgin peak, which is among the numerous snow-capped peaks in Dolakha.
Highlighting the importance of the ascents of virgin peaks in Dolakha and its role in Dolakha’s mountain tourism, Chair Oli invited the climbers to scale Chhopa Bamare, which can be scaled in a short time.According to Lila Bahadur Basnet, although this was the first attempt at the new peak, the team encountered no obstacles during the ascent due to the experienced members in the team.The expedition was jointly organized in collaboration with Himalayan Shepherd Eco Trek and Expedition and Dolma Outdoor Expedition with the support of Bigu Rural Municipality.
